It is my goal to treat every patient with great care and understanding. I will work individually with each patient to help deliver the highest-quality treatment for their specific injury.
Education is the cornerstone of my practice. One of the most important jobs that I have is to educate my patients about their problem. I created this website to help my patients better understand their problem and the treatment process. I have also enjoyed years of teaching and contributing to the education of our future physicians, athletic trainers and physical therapists. In order to excel at my profession I have remained highly committed to continuing my own education.
As a sports medicine and active lifestyle physician, I understand the need to have rapid access to an injury expert. Receiving a timely, accurate evaluation is the first key step to a speedy recovery. Patients will initiate a detailed, patient-specific treatment as soon as possible. While surgery is sometimes required, the need for surgery can usually be alleviated by more conservative measures such as physical therapy, medicine and sometimes an injection. Accurate modification of the plan, based on treatment response and compliance, is another key to success. I view surgery as a last resort. However, if surgery is necessary, I strive to provide my patients with the most technologically advanced surgical treatments.
I understand that each patient is unique with their own interests, expectations and personal circumstances. Combining this information with my knowledge of your injury allows me to suggest the most appropriate treatment course to meet your goals. All treatments are a partnership between the patient and me, based on mutual trust, respect
I would like to thank my current patients for allowing me to participate in their care and pledge the same level of commitment to those patients who are new to my practice.

Dr. Marc S. Fineberg was born and raised in Western New York. Upon graduating from Williamsville North High School and entering Syracuse University as a biology major, it was his career goal to become an academic orthopaedic surgeon who took care of sports teams in Western New York.
This would allow him to merge his interests in the sciences, teaching, sports and his hometown community. Since that time, Dr. Fineberg has sought out the best educational opportunities to prepare him for taking on this challenge. After stops in Syracuse, Chicago, New York, and Boston to further his education, he returned to Buffalo to join UB Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.
Growth of Dr. Fineberg’s clinical practice has provided him many teaching opportunities. Over the years he has continued to teach orthopaedic surgery residents, fellows and medical students. He has served as a preceptor for various academic programs, including physician assistant, athletic training, physical therapy and college and high school programs. Dr. Fineberg is very active in all of the orthopaedic department’s educational opportunities, such as lecturing, journal clubs, course administration, role modeling in the office, training in surgical techniques and research mentoring.
Dr Fineberg has immersed himself in local sports medicine team care. This started with the University at Buffalo Bulls and has included many local high school teams, community events, the Buffalo Destroyers (Arena Football League) and Buffalo Bandits (National Lacrosse League). He currently serves as team physician for the Buffalo Bills (National Football League), Buffalo Sabres (National Hockey League) and UB Bulls (NCAA Division I Athletics). His care has not only applied to athletes at every level but is extended to the coaches, administrators, support staff, families and friends.
Dr. Fineberg has worked hard at studying and practicing the art of performing arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder and elbow. He’s particularly proud of his capabilities in treating complex shoulder instability and rotator cuff injuries with an all-arthroscopic technique, as well as his current state-of-the-art approach to ACL reconstruction surgery.
In addition to practicing in the UB Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Lab, Dr. Fineberg has traveled around the country and overseas to stay on the cutting edge of care. He is equally passionate about office-based orthopaedics with a focus on prevention, diagnosis and non-operative treatment of orthopaedic sports medicine related problems.
